More information about this variety will follow shortly
Calardis Soleil is the latest white-berried PIWI variety developed at Geilweilerhof and was submitted for plant variety protection in 2024. The variety is characterized by very high resistance to both powdery mildew and downy mildew. It is also resistant to black rot, and sunburn on the grapes is not an issue.
This variety ripens later than its parent Solaris and earlier than Müller-Thurgau (Rivaner). As a result, it is well-suited for cultivation in cooler climates and Northern Europe. The small berries typically result in a loose cluster structure, which gives the variety a moderate to high tolerance to Botrytis.
Oenological potential:
A harmonious, full-bodied wine with lively acidity. Delicate fruit aromas of mirabelle plums, apricots, pineapple, and ripe apple, with a spicy finish featuring subtle notes of lime.
