The aim of the Association is to promote the research activities of the Institute and to connect its scientists with the national and international community, as well as with the wine sector and the general public.
The Institute for Grapevine Breeding Geilweilerhof works on the basis of modern scientific methods and findings as well as decades of experience. It
- breeds new, robust grape varieties
- preserves the genetic diversity of grapevines, including old cultivars (gene bank)
- researches disease and stress resistance in grapevines
- automates and digitalises trait recognition for breeding and precision viticulture
- maintains the databases of the Information Centre Grapevine and Wine
